My Experience with 'epilepsychats'

This week, I was tagged in a post online by Twitter user Holly_W. The tweet was an invitation to participate in something called 'epilepsychats.' Almost every other month, she picks a topic, asks questions, and those living with epilepsy, caretakers, and those who would like to learn more about epilepsy tweet under the hashtag 'epilepsychats' on Twitter for an hour.

While I have only been following Holly for a month or two, I had never participated in her epilepsychats until this week. For me, it was an eye-opening experience. I was surprised by the number of people who spoke so openly about their experiences with epilepsy on Twitter. It was comforting to read and hear other's personal stories, including Holly's. Not only did it feel like a safe space for the epilepsy community online but an educational experience as well. I learned about how others deal with their mental health at work, in school, etc. Since I enjoyed it so much, I will be participating in the next session of 'epilepsychats' in the near future.

I applaud Holly for her fantastic advocacy within the epilepsy community because she is genuinely improving and evolving the way we speak about our condition(s). I encourage everyone, epileptic or not, to check out the hashtag 'epilepsychats' on Twitter and participate in the next session.
